Steel Reef
Also known as: 鋼鐵礁 (Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan))
The four metal structures were placed as a fish aggregation device and are now covered in soft coral, staghorn coral, small gorgonians, sponges and sea squirts. A guide rope fitted to the reef turned it from a dangerous site into an intermediate one, and the batfish tend to gather along the rope. The local dive centre counted the batfish rising after the reef was redeployed, while the scenic area administration reports that overfishing later cut the school to a few fish, and restoration work is under way. Goatfish, bluefin trevally, angelfish, wrasse, parrotfish and emperors complete the picture, which makes it a favourite of wide-angle photographers.
