Anilao, on the Mabini Peninsula in Batangas province, is one of the world's leading destinations for muck diving and macro underwater photography.
Anilao sits on volcanic black-sand slopes and coral reefs at the entrance to the Verde Island Passage, about a two-to-three-hour drive south of Manila on Luzon. It is widely known as the 'Nudibranch Capital of the World' and a pioneering site for blackwater diving, with an exceptionally high density of macro life such as nudibranchs, frogfish, pygmy seahorses and octopus species. The area encompasses roughly 40 recognized dive sites, including the well-known muck site Secret Bay and reef/wall sites around Sombrero and Maricaban Islands.
