Mainit Point

Also known as: Mainit · Mainit Corner

Mainit means hot, after a small hot spring on the shore; the geographic name of the point is Cazador Point. Tidal water rushes past the triangular point several times a day, feeding sea fans, soft corals and hard corals on the slope. Great barracuda, giant trevally, whitetip reef sharks, dogtooth tuna and schools of chevron barracuda patrol the flow, while large boulders offer shelter where sweetlips rest. In calm conditions divers can explore a small cave in the shallows and the many nudibranchs on the rocks. Strong currents, down-currents and surface waves make timing with the tide essential.
