Small satellite rocks ring the cone and are full of congers, morays and octopus. A full circuit of the shoal leads to the deeper part, where large lobsters and European lobsters hide. Groupers of good size live here too, and schools of barracuda often visit the rocks. The shoal's position favours passing dentex. Because summer boat traffic outside the harbour is heavy, Diving in Elba dives it mainly outside the peak season.
