Buoy SP3
Also known as: Buoy SP 3 · The Big Rock of Eagles
On its inner side the reef is covered with Posidonia between about 2 and 10 m, while the outer face falls almost vertically past 40 m in ledges and small terraces. Diving in Elba calls it the best site at Pianosa and reports eagle rays throughout summer, with groups of five to fifteen or more in July. Large groupers here approach divers closely without ever having been fed. Hundreds of barracuda, dentex and amberjacks hunt around the reef. Sea daisies bloom in the cracks down to about 18 m.
