Quarter Mile Reef

Also known as: Quarter Mile · 1/4 Mile

Quarter Mile Reef is little more than a group of coral-covered rocks just behind the surf line, a seaward extension of the rocky Jesser Point. Because it is so shallow, wave action and surge strongly affect the conditions, so it is only dived on calm days. Its fame comes from the gestating female ragged-tooth sharks that rest here in summer, and as many as 20 sharks may be present at once. Outside that season divers see turtles, kingfish, rays and guitarfish, paperfish, pipefish, devil firefish and scorpionfish. It is also a cleaning station for eagle rays, which makes it a regular stop on snorkel trips.
