8 Mile Reef

Also known as: Ramsey's · Ramsey's Reef

8 Mile Reef is better known as Ramsey's Reef, after Dr Peter Ramsey, whose research on the reef led divers to stay away from it until his studies were complete. Pisces Diving describes it as L-shaped. The shallower north-south arm has gullies, swim-throughs, ledges and pinnacles like a compact 2 Mile Reef, while the deeper east-west arm follows a small ledge with macro life. Juvenile emperor angelfish, devil firefish, starry morays, tube anemones, cuttlefish and sea apples are among the sightings. It is a small reef surrounded by sand and is best dived on flat, calm days.
