7 Mile Reef
Also known as: Seven Mile Reef · 7 Mile
7 Mile Reef lies about 11 km north of Jesser Point and its Northern Wall has the highest reef profile of the area. When the current runs north to south divers drop onto the Northern Wall, a ledge of about 6 m that runs some 800 m south, and the Amphitheatre, a sunken bowl a few metres deeper than the rest of the reef. With a reverse current they start at Mushroom Rocks in the south, huge top-heavy bommies covered in thistle coral, and continue to the pinnacle of Castle Rock. Trumpetfish, snappers, goatfish and goldies swarm over the coral, while paperfish, ribbon eels and whip coral gobies reward a close look. Ragged-tooth and grey reef sharks, turtles and batfish are regular, and Pisces Diving says it is the reef with the most great white shark sightings.
