Messerschmitt Me 323 Wreck

Also known as: Messerschmitt 323

On 26 July 1943 two of these giant transports flying from Sardinia were attacked by RAF Beaufighters; one crashed on La Maddalena, the other ditched with a damaged tail. The aircraft's fabric skin has gone, leaving the steel tube frame of the wings. All six engines remain, with their propellers in good condition, and many carry a gorgonian, which makes them popular photo subjects. Debris is scattered on the sand around the wreck. Current can be moderate to strong, and a scooter is advisable.
