Isthmus Reef

Also known as: Harbor Reef

Isthmus Reef lies just southwest of Bird Rock in Isthmus Cove. Its shallowest point is marked by a post with a sign and a light. The reef features shallow, kelp-covered plateaus, along with ledges, undercuts and vertical walls on its west, north and east sides. Small caves shelter lobsters, while large horn sharks rest in the crevices. Nudibranchs and juvenile sheephead and garibaldi make it a good macro dive site, and the kelp offers wide-angle scenes. With little current and calm water, it’s one of the island’s easiest dives, which is why many certification courses come here.
