Farnsworth Bank
Also known as: Farnsworth Banks · Farnsworth
Farnsworth Bank is a chain of tall underwater mountains rising from deep open water off the windward side of the island. The main pinnacle peaks at about 17 m and its walls, valleys and ledges drop far beyond recreational limits. Purple hydrocoral covers much of the rock, alongside corynactis anemones, a yellow zoanthid wall and red and golden gorgonians. Scorpionfish, lingcod, torpedo rays, morays and nudibranchs are common, and pelagics such as yellowtail, barracuda and blue sharks pass by. The bank is part of the Farnsworth Offshore State Marine Conservation Area, and the exposed position means it can only be dived in calm seas.
