Grotta dei Gamberi

Also known as: Punta Chiappa Levante · Shrimps Cave

The dive starts on a rocky bottom with Posidonia at the foot of the mooring and leads to a drop-off where a canyon opens up, its walls coloured by red coral and sponges. Further out a large rock dome covered in gorgonians rises to about 33 m. The cave runs about ten metres into the rock under the tip of Punta Chiappa, and its ceiling and walls are covered with Plesionika shrimps, with forkbeards, conger eels and lobsters in the holes. Its floor is very fine silt, so careless finning ruins the visibility. Currents along the point often draw in barracuda and dentex, and ocean sunfish are frequent in May and June.
