Pescador Island
Pescador Island rises out of deep water in the Tanon Strait, and local dive centres call it the highlight of diving in Moalboal. A narrow shelf of coral, only a few metres wide, rings the island before walls fall away on the north and west sides, while the south side forms a steep slope. On the north-west side lies the Cathedral, a cavern with several openings that divers enter from the wall and that lets in light from the surface. The walls carry black coral, gorgonian sea fans and sponges, with frogfish, scorpionfish, nudibranchs and moray eels in the cracks. Schools of barracuda, jacks and tuna pass in the blue, and turtles are common. Most dives start at the south side and drift east or west along the wall with the current.
