Chicken Reef

Also known as: 雞仔礁 (Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan)) · Jizai Reef

The platform drops from the chicken head at 18 m down a steep cliff to more than 30 m, and the currents that sweep over it draw fusiliers, unicornfish, bannerfish and trevally. On its south side lies the Crocodile Mouth, a 7 m high formation with a 33 m deep base that looks like open jaws. Beyond it a gorgonian forest between 30 and 40 m is described as the densest in Taiwan. Leopard wrasse, lemonpeel and Watanabe angelfish and other small reef fish add colour, and pygmy seahorses and the comet are among the species worth looking for. The boat drop has to be timed upstream so divers can drift down onto the site.
