Salvatierra Wreck
Also known as: El Salvatierra · Salvatierra Ferry Wreck
The roughly 75 m ferry hit Swanee Reef and went down shortly afterwards; all passengers survived. Before it could be salvaged, Hurricane Liza tore much of the upper structure off the deck, but a large part of the hull remains, including the propellers and cargo trucks. The wreck is dived from the outside, with no penetration needed, which makes it suitable for newer divers. Large groupers and sea bass are typical residents, reef fish school around the hull, and black coral now grows on sections of the structure. Currents in the channel can be strong.
