El Bajo

Also known as: Marisla Seamount

El Bajo, also called the Marisla Seamount, lies about 8.2 miles from Los Islotes. Three underwater peaks are lined up over roughly 300 yards; the central one rises to about 16 m below the surface and serves as the main dive and anchoring point, while the others top out deeper. Hammerhead sharks circle the seamount in groups that can range from a handful to hundreds. Schools of amberjacks and tuna, giant manta rays, whale sharks and silky sharks are also reported. A small canyon on the mountain holds a colony of Panamic green morays. Operators require an Advanced Open Water certification and run the trip only in suitable weather.
