Mackerel Boulder
También conocido como: Mackeral Boulder · Mackerel Boulders
Mackerel Boulder is a group of large boulders in open ocean close to Julian Rocks and gives its name to a habitat protection zone of the marine park. Deep, undercut fissures split the boulders, and the north-western corner has holes and small caves. Large cod, wobbegongs, loggerhead turtles and painted crayfish live there, and smooth rays more than 3 metres across appear in the cooler months. Jewfish, kingfish, snapper, mackerel and several kinds of stingray and eagle ray also frequent it. Because there is no shelter, it is only dived in calm conditions.
