Cod Hole

The Cod Hole is a short, sloping archway on the northern end of Julian Rocks whose openings stay visible throughout, so it is a swim-through rather than a true cave dive. Inside, clouds of bullseyes hang in the shade while large cod, jewfish, kingfish and Queensland groper look out from the entrances. The walls hide painted crayfish, slipper lobsters, morays, cleaner shrimp and occasionally the rare ornate ghost pipefish. In the colder months grey nurse sharks gather around the hole at about 16 to 20 metres. The sand behind it is a good place to watch passing pelagics, eagle rays and, in summer, mantas.
