Kubu Reef
Also known as: Kubu
A quieter reef near Kubu village, a short drive north of Tulamben, with shallow staghorn coral off the beach and small walls covered in sea fans and sponges. Lionfish and blue-spotted rays are numerous, and dogtooth tuna and trevally are among the larger visitors.
Right off the beach a shallow reef of staghorn coral holds schools of reef fish. A black sand slope with nudibranchs, eels, cuttlefish and leaf scorpionfish leads to two small walls, where gentle drift dives pass sea fans with pygmy seahorses, barrel sponges and hard and soft corals. AquaMarine's guides often meet reef sharks, turtles, barracuda and bumphead parrotfish here. Dive The World calls it a quieter site with healthy coral cover.
