Point Defiance North Wall
Also known as: Point Defiance N Wall
Point Defiance North Wall is made of clay, sandstone and rock and drops from around 20 ft in a series of shelves and walls, some only a few feet high and others 20 to 30 ft tall and undercut. Blocks that have fallen from the wall lie at its base and add fish habitat, and the scenery becomes more dramatic toward the point. Warbonnets, small octopus, sculpins, greenlings, rockfish and wolf eels live in its nooks, and Emerald Diving recommends it for grunt sculpins. On a flood tide the wall is hit by the water rushing toward the Narrows, and near the point current can spill over the wall and pull divers down. A live boat is advised, since anchors often fail to set on the clay shelf.
