Sunrise Beach
Also known as: Sunrise Beach Park · Sunrise County Park · Sunrise Beach Wall
From Sunrise Beach County Park, divers swim out to a rocky reef that starts in about 25 to 30 ft and centres on a wall 10 to 25 ft high and about 75 yards long. Boulders cascade from the base of the wall down to around 100 ft. Its crevices are packed with wolf eels, which several sources describe as used to divers, and giant Pacific octopus. The Tacoma Narrows exchange makes the site strongly current-sensitive, so dives must be timed for small tidal swings. The walk from the parking area to the beach is long and steep, and charter boats often visit on suitable weekends.
