Stefano
The Stefano was an 858-ton barque carrying coal from Wales to Hong Kong when it struck the reef in October 1875; only two of its young crew survived, helped by Aboriginal people. The Western Australian Museum located the site decades later. Because the hull was wooden, little is left apart from an anchor, a windlass and iron knees scattered over an area of about 40 by 30 m. Healthy coral bommies reaching the surface surround the site on a rarely visited part of the reef. It needs swell under about 1 m and is out of range of most trailer boats.
