Fin

Also known as: SS Fin · The Fin Shipwreck

The Fin served the whaling station at Norwegian Bay until a cyclone near Point Cloates drove it onto Fraser Island in January 1923. The island has since washed away, leaving the wreck and the old lighthouse tower on a submerged sand cay. The hull lies only one to two metres deep, while the engine block and boiler break the surface. The site is sheltered from swell and has clear water, so it is mainly a snorkel, though a boat is needed to reach it. Reef fish gather around the remains.
