Fanaku Island

Also known as: Little Quoin Island · Fanaku

Fanaku lies between the other Quoin Islands in the Strait of Hormuz. A sloping reef covered with soft and hard corals runs to about 18 m, then a sandy slope full of whip corals continues deeper. It is mostly dived on the eastern side, which gives shelter from the prevailing currents, and strong down currents can occur on the west. Zebra sharks, eagle rays, turtles, batfish, giant barracuda and Spanish dancer nudibranchs are among the sightings. Sheesa Beach notes that it lies near an Omani military base and can only be dived when the boat is captained by a local Omani.
