Abu Rashid

Also known as: Abu Rashid Wall · Tawakul · Jazirat Abu Rashid

Abu Rashid is an island north of the Musandam Peninsula, about an hour by speedboat from Khasab. Its wall and coral slopes drop beyond 40 m and are covered in fields of purple soft coral that local operators describe as unique in the region. Currents shift with the tide and can be strong, so it is usually dived as a drift and recommended for advanced divers with a guide. Fusiliers, turtles, eagle rays, stingrays, kingfish and barracuda are common, and whitetip sharks are sometimes seen. The reef also hides nudibranchs and shrimps for macro divers.
