Heybeli Islands
Also known as: Heybeli island · Heybeli Ada · Heybeli
The two Heybeli islands are split by a shallow passage, and the boat moors either on the outer east side or the inner southwest side depending on the wind. That gives many alternatives: around the larger or smaller island, along the southern reef whose rocks rise to about 5 metres, or through the pass itself. Seagrass meadows, sandy slopes, rocky slopes and scattered wreck debris each host their own community. Frequent currents bring hunting scenes over the seagrass, and turtles, rays, triggerfish and small pufferfish that arrived from the Red Sea are common, while seahorses need sharp eyes.
