Umm Gamar
Also known as: Umm Gamaar · Umm Gamar South
Umm Gamar means 'mother of the moon' in Arabic, which guides link to the crescent-shaped island on top of the reef. Small plateaus lie in the 20 m range at the north and south ends, and the east side falls away as a vertical wall. Where the southern plateau meets the wall stand three coral towers covered in purple soft corals and clouds of glassfish, and the third holds a large sandy cave at about 27 m. On the plateau divers regularly meet napoleon wrasse, moray eels, batfish and schools of bannerfish, with whitetip reef sharks passing from time to time. Manta rays occasionally show up in February and March.
