Sampalan

Also known as: Batu Nunggul

Sampalan, also called Batu Nunggul, lies close to the main harbour on the east coast of Nusa Penida. The gently sloping reef has well preserved hard and soft corals, fine table coral formations and big barrel sponges. Scuba Center Asia usually dives it as a drift from south to north. Turtles, sweetlips, bannerfish, triggerfish and fusiliers are common, and frogfish and nudibranchs hide among the coral heads. Because of the shifting currents and the nearby boat lanes, guides pick the entry point and the day carefully.
