Melasti Beach

Also known as: Melasti Amed

Named after a beach where Balinese ceremonies take place, Melasti Beach is a shore muck dive at the northern end of Amed. Instead of a coral reef there is dark volcanic sand with rubble and a few rocks on a gentle slope. This plain bottom is where guides find frogfish, ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish, harlequin shrimp, snake eels, seahorses and many nudibranchs and flatworms. Conditions are usually calm, which allows long and slow dives, and the site is also dived at night. Diving With Jim uses it as its local muck site, five minutes from its shop.
