Gili Selang

On the sheltered north side a black sand slope with nudibranchs and gobies turns into a rich reef of hard and soft corals, with black coral bushes and gorgonians hosting pygmy seahorses. The exposed east side drops steeply beyond recreational depths and is known for swirling and down currents. In these exposed areas divers may meet reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles, giant trevally, barracuda, Napoleon wrasse and bumphead parrotfish, and on very rare occasions hammerhead sharks. On the south side the reef becomes steeper, with large coral heads and overhangs where sharks and rays rest. Divers need to listen to the briefing and stay close to their guide.
