Emerald

Emerald lies one step beyond Batu Kelebit, south-east of Tulamben Bay, and is dived from a jukung. Entry is into a shallow bay floored with white sand, which sets it apart from the black sand typical of Tulamben. On the sandy slope lie old artificial reef pieces, including a sunken car, used by cuttlefish, gobies, dartfish, ribbon eels and garden eels. Deeper down, from about 20 to 30 m, the reef gets richer, with barrel and elephant-ear sponges and many gorgonians, some of them with pygmy seahorses. When the current runs, the dive often ends as a drift toward Batu Kelebit.
