Crystal Bay

Also known as: Penida Bay

A small rocky islet with a temple sits in the middle of the bay, and the reef around it starts at about 5 to 6 m with hard corals, anemones and soft corals over white sand. Towards the channel the reef drops off into a very deep wall, and in season mola mola rise to cleaning stations on the slope just outside the bay. Currents here can be unpredictable, with sudden down currents near the drop-off, so some dive centres take only advanced divers. On the north side of the bay a cave open to the sky houses sleeping bats. Reef sharks, eagle rays, sea snakes, turtles and occasional wobbegongs and mantas are seen, and visibility can exceed 30 m.
