Scoglietto di Portoferraio
Conosciuto anche come: Scoglietto – Grouper Drop-off · Le Cernie landslide · Lo Scoglietto
Decades of protection have turned the waters around the islet into a busy aquarium where most typical Mediterranean species can be seen in a single dive. The main route follows a slope of boulders on the east side that starts a few metres down and ends on sand. Groupers of considerable size swim calmly among the rocks, and the crevices hide scorpionfish, forkbeards, congers and morays, with brown meagre at the foot of the slope. Over the seagrass and sand further north, dentex, amberjacks and bonito patrol, and Diving in Elba often has schools of barracuda along for the whole dive. Infoelba recommends the shallower part for night dives.
