Ilha dos Franceses

Ilha dos Franceses lies in front of Praia Grande. The rocks host varied life, passing fish and now and then a small shark. Large scorpionfish (mangangá) are reported among the rocks. The islands are sheltered from strong wind by Ilha de Cabo Frio, so divers are rarely troubled by current. The site is best when the upwelling is weak, because the water often falls to about 9 °C. The wreck of the frigate Dona Paula lies in shallow water nearby.
