Dona Paula Wreck
Also known as: Dona Paula · Fragata Dona Paula
The Dona Paula was built in London in 1795 as the Surat Castle and bought by the Brazilian navy in 1825. She took part in operations on the Río de la Plata in 1826 before she hit Ilha dos Franceses and sank in 1827. Today the copper-sheathed wooden frigate is broken up, but cannons are still visible and old cannonballs may be found. Visibility ranges from 2 to 15 m, and cold upwelling water can make the dive challenging.
