Shark Island
Also known as: Sira Khorfakkan
Shark Island, which Visit Sharjah also calls Sira Khorfakkan, offers a choice between a sheltered bay covered in hard coral over roughly 200 m and a wall of large granite boulders about 250 m long. From November to April blacktip reef sharks are often seen along the eastern side. Following the rock out from the wall leads to table corals at least 2 m across with typical Indian Ocean reef life. Shoals of cornetfish, trevally, mackerel and fusiliers are common, along with turtles, honeycomb morays, clownfish and Arabian angelfish. The shallow parts suit first-time divers and snorkellers.
