Golden Bommies
The two bommies sit just off the main reef, which slopes from about 26 metres to the sand at close to 40 metres. Yellow zoanthids give the rock its golden colour, and sea whips carrying jewel anemones cover the walls together with finger sponges. Huge schools of butterfly perch, sea pike, trumpeter and banded morwong often almost hide the rock, with long-snouted boarfish and cowfish among them. Bottom time is short at this depth, so divers usually ascend along the main reef and finish on Mount Everest. The site lies in the no-take Governor Island Marine Reserve.
