Cathedral Cave

Also known as: Cathedral Caves · The Cathedral

A cathedral-shaped arch, big enough to be seen from the surface, opens into a wide passage that still gets some daylight. More than a dozen caves, tunnels and side passages lead off it, most of them linked and several dark and tight. Near the openings the rock is crusted with sponges, hydroids, ascidians and anemones, many of them species usually seen much deeper. Schools of bullseyes hover in the passages and stand out against the light from the entrances. Boats tie off to ropes fixed to the walls of the inlet instead of anchoring. Torches and good buoyancy are essential, and the inner tunnels call for a guide or cave training.
