Banshu Maru

Also known as: Banshu Maru No. 52 · IJN Banshu Maru · IJN Minesweeper No.52

Built in 1921 as a fishing trawler, the Banshu Maru was converted to a minesweeper and reported for duty in Subic only three days before she sank. She was clearing a US minefield in the deep channel next to Grande Island when a mine struck her. The small wreck stands upright with her deck a few metres above the sandy bottom. Dive centres use her as a culmination dive of Tec 50 and extended range courses.
