Douglas Skyraider

Also known as: Skyraider · Douglas AD-4N Skyraider · Douglas Skyraider (AD-5N)

The Skyraider served the US Navy from the late 1940s into the Vietnam era, and this example is a multi-seat night or electronic warfare version. It went into the bay after a crash near the Cubi Point airfield; Scubaholics dates the crash to April 1964, Mangos to January 1962. The plane rests on the bottom as if still flying, missing only its engine and propeller. Divers can look into the cockpit with its controls and gauges, and a parachute pack is still in the rear fuselage. Banded shrimp, sweetlips and juvenile jacks live on the airframe.
