The Canyon

Also known as: El Cañón

The site is shaped like a horseshoe or semicircular crater of rock with a sandy floor inside, bounded by a ridge before the drop-off. Two cleaning stations attract large animals, and divers settle around them to watch sharks and mantas queue for the attention of angelfish. Scalloped hammerheads can appear in schools of hundreds, joined by Galapagos, silky and silvertip sharks and now and then a tiger shark. Dolphins, tuna and jacks add to the action. Conditions are usually milder than at The Boiler, so boats often use it when the swell makes that site too rough.
