Airport Wall

Also known as: Airport · Airport 1

Airport Wall follows the coastline in front of the Puerto Plata airport and is about 15 minutes by boat west of Sosua beach. It is so long that operators use several entry points along it, with the reef starting at around 5 to 10 m and dropping to about 30 m. Soft and hard corals, sea whips and sea fans cover the wall, while away from it large pinnacles, swim-throughs, little caverns and tunnels invite exploration. Divers find anything from cleaner shrimp and flamingo tongue snails to goliath grouper, and the open-ocean exposure brings occasional barracuda, eagle rays, mantas and reef sharks. It is best dived in the morning, when wind and waves are lowest.
