Cayo Arena
Also known as: Cayo Paraiso · Paradise Island
Cayo Arena is a tiny sandbank surrounded by a ring of coral, reached by boat from Punta Rucia or La Isabela. Divers can enter from the cay itself and cover about half of the reef ring in an hour in shallow water. Corals and sponges host octopus, crabs, surgeonfish, sergeant majors, damselfish, angelfish and yellowtail snappers, and the fish come close because visitors feed them. There is hardly any current, which makes it suitable for divers with little experience. Tour groups crowd the cay from late morning, so early dives are recommended.
