Black Jack

Also known as: B-17F Black Jack · Blackjack

Black Jack ditched off Cape Vogel in 1943 on the way back from a mission and now sits upright on a flat sandy bottom off a coral reef near the village of Boga Boga. The four-engined bomber is largely complete, with wings, fuselage, engines and gun turrets still recognisable, although the nose section is crushed. Corals have grown over the aircraft, and in the usually clear water the whole wreck can often be seen at once. Its depth puts it at the limit of recreational diving, so dives here need careful planning.
