Hat Caye Drop-off

Hat Caye Drop-off sits on the main western wall just west of Hat Caye, south of Long Caye. Two reefs are separated by a wide sand slope: a very shallow one near the island and a narrow strip hugging the edge of the drop-off. Huge basket sponges line the rim, some big enough to hide a diver, and they shelter brittle stars and coral shrimp. Giant yellow tube sponges and deep-water lace coral add to the scenery on the wall. Currents are usually minimal, and dive guides rate it a site for beginners.
