Manta Village

Also known as: Keauhou Manta · Kaukalaelae Point · Keauhou Bay (Manta Village)

Manta Village off Keauhou was the first place where manta rays were watched under lights in Kona, in front of the former Kona Surf Hotel. When the hotel closed in 2000 and its lights went out, the mantas stopped coming, and they returned after the resort reopened as the Sheraton in 2004 and lights were set up again. At night the lights concentrate plankton and the mantas come in to feed. The channel drops off quickly and boat traffic is heavy, so snorkelling here from shore is not recommended.
