TSS Merimbula

Also known as: SS Merimbula · Merimbula

The Merimbula, a twin-screw steamer built in Scotland in 1909, ran onto Whale Point on Beecroft Peninsula on 27 March 1928, and nobody died. Today the bow lies on the rocks and the wreckage runs away from the reef among boulders, with the stern section on sand in the deepest part. The two engines, the boilers, propeller shafts, an anchor and winches are the main features. The wreck can be reached from the exposed reef by the national park walking track, but only in calm seas. It is protected under the Historic Shipwrecks Act.
