El Bajo Gardner

Also known as: Gardner's Seamount · Gardner's Shallows

El Bajo Gardner is a seamount just northeast of Gardner Islet, off the northeast coast of Española. A few rocks mark its top, and its slope descends to sand. Large schools of eagle rays and manta rays may appear, along with jacks, mackerels, Galápagos sharks and sea lions, while whitetip reef sharks rest on the sand. Garden eels, red-lipped batfish, peacock flounders and tiger snake eels live on the bottom, and thermoclines are frequent.
