French Reef

French Reef is a maze of coral ledges, tunnels, arches and small caves, most of them wide enough to swim through. Its best known features are Hourglass Cave, Christmas Tree Cave with its Christmas tree worms, and the larger White Sand Bottom Cave in the centre of the reef. The overhangs shelter glassy sweepers, moray eels, lobsters and grouper, and a light is useful to look into the caves. Rainbow Reef reports eagle rays, manta rays and occasional sharks passing by. Part of the reef lies in a small sanctuary preservation area marked by buoys with the letter F.
