Minnewaska Wreck
Also known as: Minnewaska · Minowaska 3
Minnewaska was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and launched in 1908. Serving as a troop transport in the First World War, she struck a mine in November 1916, and her captain beached her near Cape Deutero at the mouth of Souda Bay, where everyone aboard was rescued. The hull was later sold and broken up on site, so what divers see today is scattered wreckage. Barracuda, groupers and moray eels now live among the remains. The shallow depth makes this piece of history accessible to a wide range of divers.
